Stuff Of Legends

In June 2005 a four man team of Navy SEALs were in Afghanistan searching for a terrorist. Their position was given away by locals and 50 Taliban fighters descended on them. Lt. Michael Murphy of Patchogue, N.Y grabbed the radio and moved into the open to get a better position to radio for extraction, even though he was shot in the back and dropped the transceiver he picked it up and completed the call.
He returned to cover and continued to fire at the enemy with his men.
When the rescue helicopter arrived it was struck by an RPG killing all 16 people aboard.

The fire fight lasted 2 hours and left 35 Taliban dead, all but one of the Seals were dead. Marcus Luttrell the lone survivor was blown over a ridge and lay unconscious, he was hidden by villagers for a few days until his rescue .

President Bush awarded Lt Murphy the Medal of honour for his heroism. Murphy's parents recounted at how he was nicknamed "The Protector," because of his strong moral compass.

"Murph," had joined up after 9/11, he wore a patch of the New York City Fire Department on his uniform, and wanted to get those who attacked his country.

I have met Navy Seals, unassuming, modest, modern day warriors they have my respect as some of the world's finest elite soldiers.

This is a real courageous man OB. Thanks for honoring him here on your blog. Another Murphy receiving the Medal of Honor, as in Audie Murphy. Navy Seals, Army Rangers. This is the toughest work there is. If I told you what the training entails you wouldn't believe me.

Audie didn't look like a hero with that baby face, it goes to show you. I know an ex seal medic who did some private work in Iraq, he told me all about the drown proofing amazing.
