A Princess And A Mother

No matter what you think about the royals Princess Diana for a brief time was the best of them.

Ten years since Princess Diana died in a car crash, wow that was only 10 years ago. I was working a Saturday night shift on the 31st of August 1997 when someone came off their break and said she had been in a car crash and had broken her leg or something, we heard later that she had died.

I came into work the next day for a noon to 8pm shift and was annoyed to find the radio station that was fixed to one channel was playing instrumental pan pipe music all day as a tribute, those fuckers.

I wasn't too upset about her as they were toffs to me, another world that looked doon on my kind.

When I visited my mum a week later I saw pure sorrow in her eyes when she mentioned Diana, that shook me a bit and I stopped being so glib about the whole thing.

Now I think of the sons William and Harry, they were just 14 and 12 years old respectively and they lost their mother, not the people's princess not some icon who touches aids patients but they lost their mother.

The only person who probably showed them real caring love and who kept them grounded in reality as humans not some twat that doesn't know how to relate to another person and hands you off to a nanny when you need a hug.

I feel sorry for the two boys who lost their mother.

In the words of Prince Harry who showed what kind of fine young man hes growing into :
"To us, just two loving children, she was quite simply the best mother in the world. When she was alive, we completely took for granted her unrivaled love of life, laughter, fun and folly.

She was our guardian, friend and protector. She never once allowed her unfaltering love us to go unspoken or undemonstrated."
